who’s going

Get your Tanzania safari tours experience through two of the country’s greatest highlights – Lake Manyara and Ngorongoro Crater. Find incredible birds and wildlife on this Tanzanian safari.

If you do not have plenty of time but want to experience Tanzania’s wildlife and beauty then this is the perfect trip for you! This short and intense trip will bring you to two of the most spectacular national parks in Tanzania.

The first day you will visit the Lake Manyara national park, a scenic beauty full of wildlife. Also for birdwatchers this is an excellent trip. Flamingos dot the lake surface, joined by myriad other water birds that are best spotted at the end of the dry season. And that’s just the start. Practically all large mammals roam the grassy floodplains, as residents or migratory visitors.

The second day you will be heading to the Ngorongoro Crater. As spectacular as it sounds, this massive crater only accounts for a tenth of the entire Conservation Area. Next to its geologically special features, the crater is home to almost every mammal of the African plains, including the endangered black rhino, and the densest population of predators in Africa. Birdlife is also extremely abundant, in particular flamingos affected by the fresh water from Lake Magadi on the crater floor.

Day 1: Arusha to Lake Manyara national park

In the morning around 8.30 we will drive from Arusha to Lake Manyara National Park. We will have the first game drive and have picnic lunch surrounded by the scenic safari park. Flamingos dot the lake surface, joined by myriad other water birds that are best spotted at the end of the dry season. And that’s just the start. Practically all large mammals roam the grassy floodplains, as residents or migratory visitors. We also try to spot the legendary Lake Manyara tree-climbing lion.
We will have dinner and spend the night at Panorama Camp Site or similar.

Day 2: Lake Manyara to Ngorongoro Crater to Arusha

It’s time to set our eyes on a new spot. After breakfast, we head to the Ngorongoro crater for a game drive with picnic lunch boxes. We drive through the fascinating conservation area through the Crater Highlands, in which local tribes are permitted to maintain their traditional lifestyles in as natural environment as possible. This extraordinary volcanic landscape is rich and fertile, with stunning craters and lakes, and the high altitude creates a malaria-free microclimate. For sure we will see plenty of wildlife before we are going back to Arusha in the afternoon at 15.00.

Here are some of our recommendations of items to take. We want to ensure you get the most out of your safari trip 🙂

  • Plenty of sun protection, lotion or cream (High SPF)
  • A wide-brimmed hat to shade you from the sun, this should have string/straps if standing in the van or jeep as it could be blown off
  • A good pair of sunglasses as you are on the equator where the sun is very strong. Prescription sun spectacles are not recommended as may scratch or fall off the vehicles
  • Bottle’s or jugs of water to keep you hydrated. Spending a lot of time in the sun, even when wearing hats and sunglasses will dehydrate you in most cases
  • A fleece/jumper/sweater for the early morning (or a safari jacket) and evening game drives, as it tends to get very chilly, especially in the highlands.
  • Shorts and t-shirts or light trousers for the daytime
  • Long trousers and long or short-sleeved shirts for the evening and protection from mosquitoes
  • Plenty of film or flash card memory for your camera and a battery charger for all electronic devices
  • Swimming costumes/bathing suits in case the lodge/camp has swimming pools
  • A good pair of binoculars (there’s usually just one pair in vehicles)
  • A pair of safari shoes or trekking boots
  • A pack of wet wipes
  • Mosquito repellent
